Learn Korean

Learn Korean built for you

Lumi Language is Korean for a cousin in Seoul, a new job, or speaking to a partner's parents properly. Every word has a romanisation, and the generated course follows who you will talk to — lunch chat at work is not the same as 존댓말 at a family table.

Not “Korean, beginner” — “visiting my cousin in Seoul in October — I want to order food and follow shows without subtitles”.

Ordering and family-visit phrases before colours and farm animals.

First-month Korean phrases

  • Housing — Viewing a flat, asking what is included, agreeing a date.
  • Town hall — Registering, asking where to queue, the document they will ask for.
  • Doctor — Booking, saying where it hurts, understanding the next step.
  • Neighbours — The first hello in the stairwell, and the first small ask.

Longer: what to say at a Korean 주민센터 · what to say at a Korean flat viewing.

Questions

Do I need to know Hangul first?

It helps, and you will see it from lesson one, but every word also has a romanisation. You can start speaking before the script is fluent.

Formal or informal speech?

Depends who you named. Parents and colleagues get polite endings; a cousin your age may not. Ask the tutor mid-exercise why a sentence ends in 요 or 니다.

Can this help with dramas without subtitles?

A little, if that is the goal you type. You will not understand a whole episode in a month; you will recognise the greetings, food talk and endings that keep tripping you up.

Is this North or South Korean?

South Korean, Seoul-leaning. If you need something else, say so in the goal — generated lessons follow the situation you describe.
