Learn Italian

Learn Italian built for you

Lumi Language is Italian for two weeks in Rome, a grandmother in Sicily, or cycling through Tuscany. Gender and polite forms get explained on the card you just got wrong, and the first unit is trattorias and a landlady, not a list of colours.

Not “Italian, beginner” — “two weeks in Rome in June — ordering in trattorias and talking to my landlady”.

Trattoria and landlady phrases before colours and farm animals.

First-month Italian phrases

  • Housing — Viewing a flat, asking what is included, agreeing a date.
  • Town hall — Registering, asking where to queue, the document they will ask for.
  • Doctor — Booking, saying where it hurts, understanding the next step.
  • Neighbours — The first hello in the stairwell, and the first small ask.

Longer: what to say at an Italian anagrafe · what to say at an Italian flat viewing.

Questions

Will I learn formal Lei or informal tu?

Whichever fits. A landlady and a shop get Lei; a grandmother you are close to may not. Put who you will speak to in the goal.

Is two weeks in Rome enough to be useful?

Fluent, no. Ordering, directions, and a short conversation with a host, yes — that is a realistic two-week goal, and the course is built around it.

Sicilian family — is standard Italian alright?

Start there. Say Sicily in the goal if you want greetings and table talk aimed at that visit. The tutor can explain when something you heard at the table is not textbook Italian.

Do I have to use the goal feature?

No. Thirty-two hand-written topics are the default path. Use the generator when you have a date.
